Hey all!
I liked chapter 16 which was about special occasion and group speaking. This was helpful because in the future I am hoping to have several special occasion and group speeches. For example, my boyfriend is graduating after this semester is over and his family is throwing a huge banquet for him and I will be speaking. This chapter taught me to celebrate what someone has already done well and since he is a first generation college student, his parents are very proud of him. I have to make sure to be entertaining and lighthearted as make sure to focus on a theme.
Since many classes involve group speaking this chapter was helpful because it provided useful information on presenting in small groups. It talked about working together and practicing together to ensure that the presentation flows together and to feel more comfortable.

I also thought that chapter 16 was very useful because I to have to give a “speech”, mote like a toast, at my cousin’s wedding in like a month. Though I know almost everybody that is going to be there I am still a little nervous. But like you said the chapter had a lot of useful information. I liked how the chapter broke it up in sections that were dedicated to a unique scenario like the “after dinner speech”. I am fairly cretin that you will do a good job, after all you in a class that is all about public speaking.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great point to take note of, we all don't realize how speaking in front of people, especially for a special occasion, is more important than we may think it to be, and it always is very meaningful for someone, like your boyfriend, to have you speak on his behalf. Knowing good points to make when giving a speech at a special occasion is a good skill to have, you will be able to use it in the long run as well, especially if you plan on giving many speeches in your life, like you mentioned. Congratulations to your boyfriend, what a great accomplishment he is achieving, i hope your speech at his banquet, and your speech this week in class goes well. see you Friday.
ReplyDeleteI think after reading chapter 16, one of the biggest things I've noticed is that we are so used to presenting the average speeches, that we never really get to practice the very rare speeches, such as the occasional speeches, whether it be for awards and/or for guest speakers. I think that all the practice at school though, helps to contribute for the ideas that we need in the future. For example, we are continuously presenting persuasive speeches, topical speeches, all to deliver a message. I believe that as long as we continue the training, that we are able to deliver just as successfully in any future situation.
